How to Protect Android Apps Against Octo

Last updated September 17, 2024 by Appdome

What is Octo?

Octo is a highly sophisticated Android banking trojan designed to carry out financial fraud and identity theft. It spreads through malicious apps and phishing links, often masquerading as trustworthy applications. Once it infiltrates a device, Octo covertly steals sensitive information like login credentials and financial data through advanced techniques such as overlay attacks and SMS interception. By intercepting user interactions with banking and financial apps, it can gain unauthorized access to accounts, leading to severe financial and personal security risks.

How does Appdome protect against Octo?

You can protect mobile apps against Octo Trojans using the following Appdome protections:

1. Accessibility Service Malware Prevention – Ensures that the app closes and the user receives a notification informing them about the detection and suggesting the option to turn off their Accessibility Services via the settings.

2. Overlay Attacks & Malware Prevention – Detects and prevents screen overlays currently displaying on top of the app screen.

3. ATS Malware Prevention – Block malware that use Automated Transfer System (ATS) methods to hijack transactions in Android apps.

4. Using SSO Authentication – Allow a user to sign in to multiple applications with a single login credential.
